Seeking Comfort
It's been a weird couple of months, to say the least. On top of the world turning upside down, the mattress and home office chair both gave up the ghost at around the same time. I feel like I've been in ergonomic and comfort-seeking hell ever since. I'll save the mattress topic for another day. Right now, I'll share my office chair experience.
So I had a mesh chair that lasted a good while, but lately I was noticing tailbone and hip pain, which now may or may not be Sciatica. I found what I thought was a decent chair at Staples, but it was basically a floor model that likely had gone through a lot of abuse. I think the gas cylinder was damaged and it was sitting far too low, even adjusted at its highest point. And it was exacerbating the pain and discomfort. For $200, it wasn't worth it.
So I tried out more chairs there and at Office Depot. It's really hard to gauge what feels like it will work in just a few minutes at a time. They were all starting to feel the same. I wasn't impressed.
I briefly considered gaming chairs, but have read that the ergonomics aren't that great for desk work, and most especially for short people. I am a Hobbit.
So that started a now weeks-long, arduous search to see what's out there online. Still not happy about not being able to try something out first, but then again, I did that before and it didn't pan out. My biggest concern has been how expensive they can be! Top rated and reviewed retail for over $1,000! Yikes! Although I am sure they would fare better than the typical Staples selection, I still don't want to spend quite that much. Something middle of the road price-wise is good.
So I eventually stumbled upon a refurbishment option that drops the price considerably, but still not cheap. These are for top-rated Steelcase chairs, one of the best on the market. The biggest benefits to this route is that they use the frame of the chair and replace the parts as needed. And it saves the countless chairs from ending up in the landfill and gives it a new lease on life! The return policy is decent and the warranty is 12 years! Pretty impressive considering most are for 1 or 2 years at most. The chair itself isn't much too look at initially, but has a ton of features and customization options. The biggest selling point in that regard is that the seat depth can actually be changed. Rare, but highly desired in my case!
I'll likely go for it soon, but now I'm hoping that I can score a good Black Friday deal, if my hip can handle it. If I end up purchasing, I'll post my review!
I'm leaning towards this Pumpkin color. What do you think? 🎃❤️
